Robin Good wrote about contexual collaboration couple of years back. He wrote that the typical contextual collaboration components are Presence Awareness,Conversation,Object Sharing and Shared Workspaces. The idea of being able to collaborate from within productivity applications is great. Siebel and Microsoft have worked together to integrate the collaborative services(and that includes all the contextual collaboration components that Robin spoke of) of the SPS platform onto Siebel. While exposing Siebel or SAP data as read only through web parts or portlets has been the norm for a while, this is a profoundly different way of collaborating. There is an excellent demo of the integrated product here.
